First stop in the day was the Tabo monastery.. a very simple mud structure.. but very old.. in fact it is one of the oldest monasteries.. i forgot to take my camera, so here are the pics courtesy Deepan..
the entrance..

from the inside..

inside the monastery the walls all around were covered with beautiful paintings.. the walls in the main prayer hall were lined with statues of the Boddhisatvas.. each statue was intricately carved.. sadly no photography was allowed..
some lovely shots from vivek's camera..

yup i managed to play it..

After breakfast we set out for Dhankar Monastery.. the route was said to be 9kms of tough off-roading and we were really looking forward to it..
on the way..

When i left the main road, i was waiting for the tarmac to end.. the raod started climbing up but lovely tarmac continued..

to everyone's disappointment, the road had been made and there was no offroading.. finally we reached the Dhankar Monastery.. view of the monastery from valley below (from Deepan's camera)..

view from the top..

while coming down vivek, sandy and nishant decided to take the shortcut..

they soon realised that the route was doing no where so they decided to directly go downhill.. nishant showing some great skills..

apne sandy bhaiya..

re-joining the road, we started for Pin Valley.. At the entrance to Pin Valley..

we had heard that this after the dry brownness of Spiti, the Pin Valley was a welcome green change.. Innitially we were apprehensive about this. as we entered Pin Valley, the road was bad and terrain still arid..

but slowly terrain started showing traces of green..

Finally our patience was rewarded..

Vikram and i were trailing behind others and trying to catch up. After crossing Sangam there was no road..

after some time we thought we had come too far.. Vikram noticed that there werent any tire marks in the dirt.. imagine standing in such a remote place that you can see if your friends have been there or not by looking for tire marks on the road. we decided to turn around..

after a few kilometres we met Deepan and Manik we had come searching for us. the others had decided to leave the road and ride around a bit in the river bed. Vikram and i had missed them. After a quick lunch we were on our way back..

after leaving the Pin Valley, we joined the main road again..

by evening we reached Kaza..

after buying some supplies we turned towards Kibber..

as we started climbing up..

the Kee Monastery..

the clouds..

the village on a distant mountain.. i was wondering how people manage to live there..

finally im there..

our hotel.. the person running it was called John Wayne..

the Kibber town..

13800 feet above sea level.. wow thats really high..

and he doesnt seem to mind it at all..

the sunset over the Kibber village..

our steeds..

wow..
